Gleich dreifach wurde die SED im Jahr 1983 herausgefordert: Global eskalierte die nukleare Konfrontation, national drohte ein Staatsbankrott und in der Bevolkerung machte sich ein frustrierendes Gefuhl von Stagnation breit. Die Stasi-Berichte dokumentieren uberlastete Braunkohlekombinate, hitzige Debatten zur Abrustung und den Empfang der Grunen-Politstars Petra Kelly und Gert Bastian bei Erich Honecker. Besonders im Fokus der Staatssicherheit stand die kleine, aber hochaktive DDR-Friedensbewegung. Greifbar wird in den Berichten der Stasi eine ambivalente Atmosphare aus Zukunftsangst, Aufbruchsstimmung und Ungeduld.
