Chimtou, das antike Simitthus, liegt im nordwestlichen Tunesien am Fluss Medjerda in der Nahe von Jendouba. Es ist beruhmt fur seine antiken und neuzeitlichen Steinbruche, in denen der gelbe Numidische abgebaut wird. In den 1990er Jahren wurde dort bei den Steinbruch-Werkstatten aus dem fruhen 20. Jahrhundert in deutsch-tunesischer Zusammenarbeit der Neubau und die Einrichtung eines archaologischen Museums durchgefuhrt. Bei Ausschachtungsarbeiten fur den Gebaudekomplex stiess man im Mai 1993 in einer Baugrube auf einen zerbrochenen Keramiktopf,der mit spatantiken Goldmunzen aus dem fruheren 5. Jahrhundert n. Chr. angefullt war. Dieser Schatzfund von 1648 Stucken (1647 Gold, 1 Silber) soll in diesem Band detailliert vorgelegtwerden, nachdem er im Jahre 1995 in der franzosisch-tunesischen Ausstellung Carthage.L’histoire, sa trace et son echo in Paris gezeigt und von seinem Entdecker Mustapha Khanoussikurz besprochen worden war.
