Attische Sarkophage mit Eroten und Girlanden
by Eleni Papagianni
English summary: Eleni Papagianni’s study offers a thorough investigation of the cherub and garland decorated sarcophagi that were produced in Attica during the Roman Empire. In addition to an iconographic analysis of the theme, its origins, reception, variations, and ultimate influence or sepulchral decorations, this study also considers the trade in Attic sarcophagi in the markets of the Roman Empire and their influence on local workshops. This book makes an important contribution to the study of Attic sarcophagi and to the understanding of Greek sculpture in the Roman Empire.
