Tra la prima e la seconda eta moderna, Roma divenne luogo privilegiato di incontro e confronto per coloro che, a vario titolo, si cimentarono nella straordinaria impresa architettonica che stava vedendo protagonista la Curia: su committenza papale e cardinalizia, numerosi architetti, artisti, maestranze – sia romani sia forestieri – vennero coinvolti in iniziative di pregio tra la cittadella pontificia, il Borgo e piu in generale Roma, che fu teatro di un’espressivita sempre piu identificabile con l’elite di una corte internazionale; queste le aree tematiche affrontate nel volume, che si presenta come una raccolta di significativi casi-studio.
