A l’entree de la tombe d’Ineni, l’un des piliers est decore d’une representation du domaine de ce notable. Le texte qui en decrit le jardin est complete d’un tableau divise en 20 quadrats, refermant chacun un nom d’arbre suivi du nombre de specimens observes. Temoignage unique sur la vegetation de la region thebaine au Nouvel Empire, cette “liste” apparait comme une enumeration decousue de plantes devant permettre au defunt d’emporter dans l’au-dela l’image d’une exploitation agricole prospere, mais il se pourrait que, poursuivant un dessein plus ambitieux, le proprietaire de la tombe 81 l’ait elaboree selon une conception precise de sa survie et qu’elle forme un groupement coherent tant sur le plan floristique que religieux. Pour tenter de repondre a cette question en se fondant sur les donnees de la botanique et de l’egyptologie, l’ouvrage analyse le document sous deux angles differents: les elements de la liste sont d’abord consideres tels qu’Ineni les a repertories, puis examines dans les combinaisons operees par les Egyptiens au cours de leur histoire. L’auteur propose une nouvelle interpretation de l’inscription, dont la traduction s’enrichit des identifications de ksbt et im3.
