[Exemption From Religious Education]In some federal states more than a quarter of the students exempt themselves from religious education. This raises the question for the reasons of exemption. The present publication explores this question by means of an empirical survey of teachers and students. The results show that the students who exempt themselves do so because they don’t find the content of teaching plausible for their view of life. It is surprising that the teachers tend to suppose external factors as for instance the relationship with the teachers and difficulties with higher learning standards.
