Nach gründlicher vergleichender Analyse können zwei Jerusalemer Denkmäler in ihrer Datierung und Bedeutung neu eingeschätzt werden: Der Ecce-Homo-Bogen und das unter dem Damaskustor gelegene römische Tor. Der Ecce-Homo-Bogen stammt aus dem 2. Jh. n. Chr. und war ursprünglich ein monumentales Tor zu dem Stadtviertel, das die römische Armee besetzt hielt. Das römische Stadttor unterhalb des heutigen Damaskus wurde in der Regierungszeit des Kaisers Hadrian als nördliche Begrenzung der Aelia Capitolina errichtet.
Le présent ouvrage est consacré aux deux arcs monumenteaux conservés à Jérusalem: l´ »Ecce Homo« et la porte romaine située sous la porte de Damas. La démarche adoptée a consisté à collecter l´ensemble des données disponsibles, à les analyser et les confronter. Ces données concernent les arcs mais aussi le site dans lequel ils sont implantés: la topographie, les vestiges et le materiél retrouvés. Les informations réunies ont amené à conclure à une datation de la deuxième moitié du siècle pour l´Ecce Homo et du règne d´Hadrien pour la porte de Damas. Le rôle qui leur a été accorde a pu être défini: l´Ecce Homo constituait l´entrée monumentale d´un espace dévolu à la legion tandis que la porte de Damas était un monument emblématique érigé à la fondation d’Aelia Capitolina dont il marquait la limite au nord. La dernière partie de l´ouvrage est la réflexion sur la relation entre les arcs et Aelia Capitolina, du point de vue de l´histoire et de l´urbanisme.
