Capita ascetica Serdicensia (An Early Byzantine Anthology of Christian Precepts)
A Critical Edition of the Greek Text with an Introduction and English Translation
By (author) D. Getov
This book offers the critical editio princeps with an English translation of an early Byzantine anthology of Christian precepts in 264 chapters intended for monks as well as lay persons. The Greek text was discovered only recently by the editor, who identified, studied and edited it from a single extant manuscript kept in Bulgaria. The collection Capita ascetica Serdicensia is introduced here as a unique product of the early Byzantine literary tradition offering a glimpse into the cultural and religious attitudes served and into the working method of its compiler.
