In der Bibel spiegeln sich Erfahrungen wider, die Menschen im Lauf von Jahrhunderten mit Gott und der Welt gemacht haben. Marchen wiederum berichten von Ereignissen, die in dieser Form vielleicht nie geschehen sind und sich doch standig neu ereignen. Bibel und Marchen bringen auf narrative Weise existenzielle Wahrheiten und Lebensweisheiten zur Sprache: Es ist die Rede von Liebe und Hass, von Zuversicht und Verrat, von Schuld und Angst, von der Sehnsucht nach Geborgenheit sowie von menschlichen Wunschen und Grenzen. Da geht es um seelische Konflikte und geistige Entwicklungen, aber auch um Beziehungstragodien und jahrhundertealte Menschheitshoffnungen. Josef Imbach deutet zehn Marchen und zeigt, wie sehr ihre Motivwelten mit der Bibel und den Fragen des Glaubens, denjenigen nach dem Ursprung des Bosen und der Suche nach dem Weg des Heils verwandt sind.
