La ricostruzione storica della persecuzione antiebraica nell’Italia fascista ha dovuto fare i conti sin dagli albori con una diffusa attitudine a minimizzare l’antisemitismo che, con gradazioni diverse, ha accompagnato il Ventennio. Nello specifico, la storiografia ha dovuto affrontare una tendenza a sottovalutare pregiudizi e orientamenti antiebraici nella societa e nella cultura italiana; a oscurare il complesso percorso dell’antisemitismo fascista; a leggere l’alleanza con la Germania di Hitler come se quest’ultima non fosse costitutivamente votata alla persecuzione degli ebrei; a ridimensionare la collaborazione della Repubblica di Salo alla Shoah nazista. Cio ha comportato l’insorgere di inciampi alla comprensione e deragliamenti nella ricostruzione. Il loro superamento ha costituito per gli storici un cimento suppletivo, tuttora in corso. Il libro ha per oggetto otto di questi inciampi e deragliamenti.
