Questo libro indaga il contesto, i protagonisti e le conseguenze della imprevedibile “rivoluzione” del 1992, mostrando che quella del sistema politico italiano non era una “morte annunciata”. Tangentopoli viene collocata dall’autore all’interno delle reali dinamiche che contribuirono a produrla, prendendo le distanze da letture deterministiche, spesso condizionate dalle convinzioni politico-ideologiche o dal vissuto personale di commentatori e studiosi. L’obiettivo e di riequilibrare interpretazioni e categorie abusate nel dibattito pubblico e storiografico, contribuendo cosi a completare le conoscenze sulla piu grave crisi della Repubblica.
