Die jahrlich im Umfang von etwa 350 Seiten erscheinende Zeitschrift fur altorientalische und biblische Rechtsgeschichte veroffentlicht Beitrage zu rechts- wie auch sozialgeschichtlichen Problemen des Alten Orients sowie des antiken Judentums und Christentums. Die Studien aus den Fachgebieten Agyptologie, Altorientalistik, Alte Geschichte, Judaistik, Politologie, Rechtswissenschaft, Soziologie und Theologie stammen aus der Feder von Autoren aus Argentinien, Deutschland, Frankreich, Israel, Italien, Osterreich, Schweden und den USA. Daruber hinaus enthalt jede Ausgabe der ZAR einen umfangreichen Rezensionsteil.
