The dictator Benito Mussolini aimed to achieve consensus among Italians. The rhetoric he used for this purpose was less that of a manipulator than that of a profound connoisseur of the longings and desires of his time. The study resolutely persues the question of how Mussolini used myths rhetorically to gain and maintain social consensus.
