English summary: The fourth volume in the Urkunden Friedrichs II (Documents of Frederick II) includes diplomas and mandates dating from September 1220, when Frederick returned to Italy, up until August 1222. Made up of 272 documents it chronicles Frederick’s journey to Rome, his imperial coronation, the declarations of the Hoftag zu Capua (Imperial diet of Capua), which with its edict of revocation brought about the confirmation of a host of privileges, and Frederick’s return to the Kingdom of Sicily. The many documents dating from this two year period bear witness to Frederick’s efforts to establish order in the affairs of the Kingdom of Sicily, as well as to his desire to make clear the imperial claim beyond the borders of the Sicily and further to the north. Particularly well known amongst this collection of documents are the regulations on the protection of churches and the clergy, the so called “Kronungsgesetze” (Coronation laws) (D 705), which Frederick II issued in Rome on the day of his coronation as emperor. Also of note are the numerous diplomas drawn up in the wake of the Assizes of Capua, which include complete listings of the possessions (e.g. DD 667 and 747) of up to 250 towns, monasteries and churches. German description: Der vierte Band der Urkunden Friedrichs II. umfasst die Diplome und Mandate von September 1220, als Friedrich nach Italien zuruckkehrte, bis August 1222. Mit 272 Urkunden dokumentiert er Friedrichs Weg nach Rom, seine Kaiserkronung, die Beschlusse des Hoftags zu Capua, der mit seinem Revokationsedikt eine Fulle von Privilegienbestatigungen mit sich brachte, und schliesslich die Ruckkehr Friedrichs in das Konigreich Sizilien. Im Vordergrund stehen dabei Empfanger in Italien – besonders in Reichsitalien, denn Friedrich manifestierte seinen dezidierten Herrschaftsanspruch als “Romanorum imperator semper augustus” nicht nur auf seinem Weg durch Oberitalien bis nach Rom, sondern auch danach in den von zahlreichen lokalen Parteikonflikten gepragten Gebieten des nordlichen Italiens. Die dichte Beurkundungstatigkeit dieser beiden Jahre zeugt von Friedrichs Bemuhungen, die Verhaltnisse im Regnum Siciliae zu ordnen, das acht Jahre lang nur von den Familiaren regiert wurde, ebenso aber auch von seinem Bestreben, die imperialen Anspruche uber die Grenzen des Konigreichs Sizilien hinaus nach Norden deutlich zu machen. Von besonderer Bekanntheit sind innerhalb dieses Urkundenkomplexes vor allem die Verordnungen zum Schutz der Kirchen und Geistlichen, die “Kronungsgesetze” (D 705), die Friedrich II. am Tag seiner Kaiserkronung in Rom erliess. Bemerkenswert sind aber auch die zahlreichen Bestatigungen in der Folge der Capuaner Beschlusse, deren ausfuhrlichste Besitzlisten (z.B. DD 667 und 747) bis zu 250 Orte, Kloster und Kirchen beinhalten.
