This volume on the Hittite verbal system completes the manual of the Hittite language by Nisili. The morphological perspective employed provides a synthesis of the Hittite verbal system according to the different synchronically identified fusional or inflectional classes. A diachronic consideration of Hittite within the Indo-European verbal system adds to this, and both together help highlight the different phenomena that help explain the emergence and constitution of fusional classes.

La perspective de l’ouvrage est essentiellement morphologique et a pour objectif d’offrir une synthese sur le systeme verbal hittite selon les differentes classes flexionnelles identifiees en synchronie. A cette perspective synchronique sont egalement ajoutees des considerations d’ordre diachronique, replacant d’une part le verbe hittite dans le cadre de la comparaison et de la reconstruction du systeme verbal indo-europeen, et, d’autre part, les differentes classes flexionnelles dans leur histoire. Il s’agit de mettre en evidence les differents phenomenes (analogie, perte de caracteristiques, permeabilite des types flexionnels) qui permettent d’expliquer l’emergence et la constitution des classes flexionnelles.
