The genealogies of the Kings of England in scroll-form, which derived from those by Matthieu Paris, were much-appreciated memory aids between 1265 and 1422. They allow us to better understand historical culture, how power was represented, how its legitimacy was conceived, and how the English sense of national feeling was formed.
