The Samaritans are a Jewish religious community and consider themselves to be direct descendants of the ten tribes of Israel and the ‘keepers of the law’. They live in Holon in Israel and in Nablus on the West Bank. The Mandaeans are the last gnostic religion of the world, their rites and customs actually still secret. In October 2008, the second Mandaean and Samaritan conference was held in honor of Rudolf Macuch at the Institute for Semitic and Arabic Studies at the Free University of Berlin. A highlight was a Mandaean baptism in Lake Wannsee. Sie leben in Holon/Israel und in Nablus/Westjordanland. Die Mandaer sind die letzte gnostische Religionsgemeinschaft der Welt, ihre Riten und Brauche sind eigentlich geheim. Nur weil zahlreiche Mandaer aus ihrer ursprunglichen Heimat, dem Irak, ins europaische, australische oder amerikanische Exil gegangen sind, hat man inzwischen genauere Kenntnisse uber den religiosen Alltag dieser Religionsgemeinschaft. Am Seminar fur Semitistik und Arabistik der Freien Universitat Berlin fand im Oktober 2008 zu Ehren von Rudolf Macuch die zweite mandaistische und samaritanistische Tagung statt, deren Hohepunkt eine mandaische Taufe im Wannsee war. In dem von Rainer Voigt herausgegebenen zugehorigen Tagungsband widmen sich 15 Beitrage Religion, Literatur und Sprache dieser religiosen Minderheiten, u.a. den Kolophonen, einer neuen Zauberschale (mit Abb.), einem neumandaischen Text, arabischen Texten in mandaischer Schrift, der Glaubensgemeinschaft der Mandaer, der mandaischen Ikonographie (mit Abb.), der metrischen Struktur mandaischer Texte und Briefen von Fritz Saxl, R. Reitzenstein und M. Lidzbarski aus dem Archiv des Warburg-Instituts. Der zweite Teil des Bandes befasst sich mit der Samaritanistik und prasentiert Untersuchungen u.a. zum arabischen Dialekt der Samaritaner, zur Rolle des Harran, zu samaritanischen Chroniken, zur samaritanischen Handschriftensammlung am Seminar fur Semitistik und Arabistik der FU Berlin, zur samaritanischen Theologie und zur exegetischen Literatur der Samaritaner.
