This volume, the result of a joint research project of the Language Laboratory, languages and cultures of Black Africa (UMR 8135, CNRS-INALCO), is a collection of eleven contributions on the properties of the logophoric pronoun and reported speech in several Central African languages. The different sections, illustrated through many examples of spontaneous speech, pay special attention to the discursive dimension of references to ‘people’ and the types of speech reported. The introduction outlines a typology of the most remarkable traits demonstrated by comparing languages under this regard.
