English summary: The present study demonstrates that interpretation is in fact a series of acceptances that build on each other to form a conceptual unit, examining first the signs that we interpret, the transposition of one subject on another, and finally the perspectivist character of interpretation and objective knowledge. French description: Ce livre s’efforce de montrer que si l’interpretation se dit en plusieurs acceptions, celles-ci s’integrent les unes dans les autres pour former une unite conceptuelle. Pour ce faire, il examine tout d’abord l’objet de l’interpretation, ensuite l’acte d’interpreter. Ce sont des signes que l’on interprete des lors que leur sens n’est pas evident, i.e. qu’ils ne forment pas un texte. Interpreter consiste a transposer quelque chose sur quelque chose d’autre (par exemple : le sens d’un texte d’une langue dans une autre; le personnage que l’acteur incarne en jouant son role) afin de rendre manifeste, sous un certain aspect, ce qui ne l’etait pas auparavant. Le rapport entre le caractere perspectiviste de l’interpretation et la connaissance objective est par la suite examine, et l’on se demande enfin jusqu’ou s’etend le champ de l’interpretation. L’essai est complete d’un texte de Gadamer qui met l’accent sur l’historicite de l’interpretation et de la comprehension, et d’un autre de Rousseau qui permet de s’interroger sur les limites de l’interpretation
