This volume completes the publication of the Early Trans-Caucasian (ETC also known as Kura-Araxes) levels at Yanik Tepe, Northwestern Iran, excavated by Charles Burney in the early 1960s. Sixty years on, Yanik Tepe remains the most extensively ETC settlement excavated in Iran and the Highlands of Eastern Türkiye. Large areas of the village were exposed, while deep stratigraphy revealed developments over more than half a millennium. Distinctive pottery, with white-filled designs depicting stylised birds and animals in combination with geometric patterns, as well as the later plain types, is copiously illustrated. Objects include stone, bone and antler tools, and items associated with local small-scale metalworking. Of particular interest is the evidence for animal skulls, apparently displayed on hut walls. New radiocarbon dates and a revised chronological scheme are presented. A final chapter discusses the place of ETC Yanik Tepe in its wider archaeological and cultural setting of the Southern Caucasus.
