Der Band thematisiert Austauschbeziehungen zwischen Japan und Europa in Literatur und Philosophie, Kunst und Architektur unter dem besonderen Gesichtspunkt der ‘Assimilation’. Ausgehend von den vielfaltigen Perspektiven, die das Verstandnis von Assimilation im Hinblick auf Aneignungsstrategien des jeweils Fremden im Osten und Westen eroffnet, wird in zwolf Fallstudien nach den Spielarten der kulturubergreifenden Rezeption eines literarischen Sujets, einer kunstlerischen Form oder eines philosophischen Denkmodells gefragt.

Die Herausgeber: Ito Toru ist Professor fur Philosophie am Institut fur Technik (KIT) in Kyoto/Japan. Simone Muller ist Privatdozentin am Asien-Europa-Institut der Universitat Zurich. Robin Rehm ist Privatdozent und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut fur Kunstgeschichte der Universitat Regensburg.
