Eddy Fraiture (1942) schetst in dit de boek de rijke geschiedenis van de torenuurwerken op de Vlaamse belforten. Hierbij kwam hij tot de onthullende vaststelling dat de eerste torenuurwerken in Vlaanderen bijna allemaal op burgerlijke gebouwen stonden dit in tegenstelling tot in de ons omringende landen. Samen volgen we de eerste torenuurwerkmakers die op gevaar van hun eigen leven in primitieve torens hun werk verrichtten, de smeden die verbeteringen aanbrachten en de klokkenstellers die dagelijks de gammele trappen op- en afliepen om het uurwerk af te stellen of te smeren. Uurwerkhistoricus Eddy Fraiture, de enige Belg die ooit in het British Museum een lezing gaf over horlogerie, werkte zes jaar aan dit geschiedkundig werk. Dit boek, uitvoerig gedocumenteerd en voorzien van talrijke onuitgegeven foto’s, is onmisbaar voor elke bezoeker en cultuurliefhebber van onze historische belfortsteden.
