The travel through Europe within Gerard de Nerval’s “Voyage en Orient” is discovered to be a hidden theoretical foreword to the Orient travel narration itself. In a subtle way, and integrating numerous prevalent European fictional and non-fictional texts on aesthetics and literary theory, Nerval underpins the novel with a stunning statement on how modern art truly looks like.
