Peut-on faire l’histoire de la pensee? La pensee est-elle le simple objet de cette histoire ou au contraire son principe, un principe qui par definition la dominerait? L’histoire de la philosophie est aujourd’hui passee d’une conception speculative a une pratique plus antiquaire. Et la consequence de cette evolution, c’est la prise en compte du temps dans la methodologie, c’est la construction de modeles de temporalite, c’est l’exigence de contextualisation des enonces. La tache de l’historien serait-elle donc de faire le releve de ce qui change tandis que celle de la philosophie serait d’identifier ce que l’histoire n’altere pas, ce qui serait son domaine propre? Les textes que nous reunissons ici temoignent de cette tension et disent tout a la fois les limites de l’appropriation historique du passe par la pensee et cette necessaire ecole de la pensee qu’est a l’histoire l’histoire de la philosophie.
