Le tome 2 du RISyr rassemble pour la premiere fois le corpus de l’ensemble des inscriptions syriaques et garshuni (arabe en ecriture syriaque) d’Iraq, dont beaucoup sont datees (709 a 2000). Documents historiques majeurs pour l’histoire de ce pays du Proche-Orient, ces inscriptions concernent les diverses communautes syriaques apprehendees selon leurs multiples dimensions ecclesiastiques, mais aussi economiques et sociales. Quasi exhaustif, le corpus, edite par les soins de l’AIBL, comprend toutes les inscriptions publiees et aujourd’hui perdues, mais egalement toutes les inscriptions encore visibles, dont beaucoup sont inedites. La traduction et les commentaires methodiques qui accompagnent chaque inscription en soulignent l’interet et les rendent accessibles aux non-specialistes. Les photographies publiees a part, en un volume de planches, permettent, quant a elles, une consultation aisee et une lecture confrontee, offrant une vision complete de l’epigraphie syriaque d’Iraq. Enfin, des index elabores avec un soin extreme offrent une mine de donnees a la fois pour le linguiste, l’archeologue, les historiens de l’Antiquite tardive, du Moyen Age et du monde moderne.
