Every two years, the Society for Greek and Hellenistic Legal History, founded by Hans Julius Wolff, convenes a symposium that gathers a small circle of legal historians, ancient historians, classical philologists, epigraphers and papyrologists who present the results of their most recent work for discussion. No overall theme is stipulated, but the papers always group themselves into two general chronological periods. The following scholars participated in the “Symposion 2001” (the respondent in each case is in parentheses): I. Archaic and Classical Greek Law: R. Westbrook (E. Cantarella), D. Cohen (L. Foxhall), A. C. Scafuro (D. C. Mirhady), D. M. MacDowell (L. Gagliardi), L. Rubinstein (G. Thur), E. M. Harris (M. R. Christ), R. W. Wallace, E. E. Cohen, S. Avramovic (S. C. Todd); II. Hellenistic and Greco-Roman Law: E. Jakab (H.-A. Rupprecht), B. Legras (B. Palme), J. Meleze Modrzejewski, M. Dreher (A. Maffi), L. Migeotte (C. Mosse), J. Velissaropoulos-Karakostas (M. Gagarin), M. Faraguna (J.-M. Bertrand). Index Locorum. Earlier volumes in the series that are still available can be ordered from Verlag Bohlau, Cologne.
