English Summary: The early Mamluk sultans purposely followed Ayyubid traditions in establishing and securing their rule. This study focuses on Sultan Baibars, who not only adopted Ayyubid role models in order to secure his own sovereignty, but was also determined in his efforts to establish a dynasty for his sons. He diligently raised his eldest son, Baraka Qan, to be heir to the throne and made every effort to protect him by establishing close ties with leading emirs. This study is the first to analyze the network based on family bonds and loyalty, which Baibars skillfully established at the Mamluk court and in the army in order to secure the succession for his sons. However, they failed, due to the misjudgments of youth and Qalawun’s intrigues.
