English summary: How did the church’s self-conception in the face of Israel influence the theology of Romans? In his historical-critical studies, Michael Theobald deals with current questions in this respect and interprets Romans as an exemplary theological discourse. His ‘fundamental theological’ studies of the argumentation in Romans and his specific way of practicing theology are of particular interest. The studies also provide a biblical and theological explanation of issues which are currently controversial, such as the doctrine of justification. Darunter befinden sich vier grossere bislang unveroffentlichte Texte. Die Sammlung deckt die Breite der im Brief behandelten Thematik exemplarisch ab und ist um folgende Problemkreise gruppiert: ‘Gottesfrage’, ‘Christologie’, ‘Zur Lehre von der Rechtfertigung’, ‘Kirche und Israel’, ‘Verstandiger Glaube’ und ‘Zur paulinischen Ethik’. Michael Theobald berucksichtigt dabei neuere methodische Zugange zum Romerbrief, unter anderem die Frage nach der Rhetorik (so in der Studie zur ‘propositio’ des Briefes, Rom 1,16 f.). Er erhellt den Brief im Horizont hellenistischer Literatur. Hohe Aktualitat besitzen einige Beitrage dadurch, dass sie zu heute strittigen Fragen eine bibeltheologische Besinnung bieten (Rechtfertigungslehre und Ekklesiologie, die ‘Ethik’ des Romerbriefs und die kirchliche Morallehre). Auch vernachlassigte Themen, wie der ‘Zorn Gottes’, werden angesprochen. Von besonderem Interesse sind Michael Theobalds ‘fundamentaltheologische’ Studien zur Argumentation im Romerbrief als einer Rechenschaft uber den Glauben und seine spezifische Art, Theologie zu treiben. Die Beitrage zeigen insgesamt, welche uberragende Rolle die Frage nach dem Selbstverstandnis der Kirche im Angesicht Israels fur die Theologie des Romerbriefs spielt….
