Die Johannesakten sind vertreten durch ihre bunten Wundergeschichten und die ihnen eigentumliche Vielgestaltigkeit der Erloserfigur. Bei einigen Varia, die sich nahtlos einfugen, setzt Hans-Josef Klauck Schwerpunkte bei Methodenfragen des religionsgeschichtlichen Vergleichs, dem Evangelium als Begriff und Gattung und der Bibel als mitwanderndem Anfang von Theologie und Kirche.
