Simboli cristiani nell’antica Siria
Non solo per archeologi e specialisti, ma anche per chi si interessa al patrimonio cristiano antico

Il libro raccoglie circa duemila simboli, per la maggior parte sotto forma di croci antiche del mondo bizantino siriano, che provengono soprattutto dalla vastissima area conosciuta come regione delle Citta morte o Citta abbandonate, nel nord della Siria. In questa zona sono stati identificati circa 850 siti con vestigia cristiane, per lo piu databili dal IV all’VIII secolo. Purtroppo molti degli antichi siti della Siria, cristiani e non, sono andati perduti in questi ultimi anni, a causa del conflitto che dal 2011 imperversa nel paese. Si tratta, dunque, di materiale di grandissimo valore e spesso unico nel suo genere. Il libro non e scritto per gli archeologi di professione e nemmeno per i grandi specialisti di tematiche simbologiche. E stato concepito per un pubblico piu ampio, per chi si interessa al patrimonio cristiano antico che, oltre al valore architettonico e decorativo, ci parla di quelle popolazioni profondamente cristiane. Questo libro esce postumo e testimonia l’appassionata dedizione dell’Autore per la Siria, per la sua gente e per il suo patrimonio storico e artistico.
