Das Motiv einer Gottheit, die ein Schlangenmonster bekampft, ist in verschiedenen Kulturraumen zu finden. Anna-Katharina Hopflinger untersucht in ihrer religionswissenschaftlichen Arbeit Bilder und Texte zu diesem Motiv anhand von Quellen aus dem griechischen und altorientalischen Kulturraum. Sie befasst sich mit Zeus im Kampf gegen Typhon, Phytons Erschiessung durch Apollon und Marduks Kampf gegen Tiamat. Die ausgewahlten Bilder und Texte werden anhand eines semiotischen Zugangs in parallelen Schritten analysiert und einem mehrschichtigen Vergleich unterzogen. Die Arbeit bietet neue Einsichten zum Drachenmotiv und leistet einen Beitrag zur aktuellen Diskussion um den religionswissenschaftlichen Vergleich sowie zum Wechselspiel zwischen Bildern und Texten als Medien von Religion.
