Ein schlafloser Stadtschreiber in Zofingen, der um seine Frau bangt, ein fruh reformierter Dorfpfarrer, der sich in Bern durchsetzen will, ubereifrige Bildersturmer und ein glucklich gerettetes Heiligenbild: Die Wellen der Reformation schwappten bis in den landlichen Aargau, wo es kein Munster, keine grossen Reformatoren, nur viele kleine Pfarreien und Kirchlein gab. Ausgehend von historischen Begebenheiten haben 14 Schweizer Autorinnen und Autoren Schicksale in den Dorfern und Stadten des Aargaus literarisch verarbeitet. Keine der so entstandenen Geschichten ist wie die andere – nah an der Vorlage oder lustvoll fiktiv, spielen sie sich in der Vergangenheit, in der Gegenwart und sogar in der Zukunft ab. Sensibel und treffsicher werden die grossen Fragen nach dem neuen Gott und ihre Nachwirkungen bis in die heutige Zeit nachgezeichnet.
