Die Zeitgeschichtsforschung in Osterreich befindet sich in einer Umbruchsituation: Die Herausforderung durch internationale Perspektiven, die Rolle der Wissenschaft im offentlichen Leben, die Karriereprofile in der Wissenschaft und das bestandige Ringen um Aufmerksamkeit um finanzielle Mittel. All diese Fragen werden in diesem Band auf den Prufstand gestellt. Klassische Themen der politischen und sozialen Geschichte des Landes werden im Band ebenso behandelt wie neue Felder der Zeitgeschichtsforschung. In mehrfacher Hinsicht werden hier Zasuren markiert: Mit diesem Band geht die Herausgeberschaft der “Zeitgeschichtlichen Bibliothek” von Helmut Konrad (Graz) auf Marcus Graser (Linz) und Dirk Rupnow (Innsbruck) uber. Den neuen Herausgebern ist es gelungen eine Vielzahl prominenter osterreichischer Zeithistorikerinnen und Zeithistoriker der unterschiedlichen Generationen zusammenzubringen und zugleich auch dem wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs einen gewichtigen Platz einzuraumen. In Beitragen, die sich mit Epochen, Zasuren, Feldern und Themen der Zeitgeschichte in Osterreich beschaftigen, soll gleichermassen Bilanz gezogen und sollen Perspektiven eroffnet werden.
