Many believe that they possess a soul which can survive the death of the body. Many believe that beyond the world of experience there are beings and powers that belong to a transcendent world. Science, however, shows us a different picture. Everything is made of atoms. The same laws of nature apply everywhere. For all life phenomena there are physico-chemical explanations. And there is no evidence that there are any supernatural beings. There are no souls, no ghosts, no gods.

Ansgar Beckermann war Professor für Philosophie an der Universität Bielefeld und gilt als einer der Hauptvertreter der Philosophie des Geistes in Deutschland. Bis 2006 war er zudem Präsident der Gesellschaft für Analytische Philosophie, seit 2018 ist er deren Ehrenmitglied. Bei mentis erschienen: „Gehirn, Ich, Freiheit“ (2008). Bei utb hat er den Band „Das Leib-Seele-Problem. Einführung in die Philosophie des Geistes“ (Wilhelm Fink, 2. Aufl. 2019) publiziert.
