Municipium Claudium Aguntum – Das Macellum

Im 2. Jahrhundert n.Chr. ist in der romischen Stadt Aguntum eine umfangreiche Bautatigkeit zu beobachten. In dieser Phase entsteht auch ein vornehmlich auf Fleisch- und Fischprodukte spezialisiertes Marktgebaude. In der schriftlichen Uberlieferung romischer Zeit werden diese Gebaude als macella bezeichnet. Architektonisch konnen macella unterschiedlich gestaltet sein, im Fall von Aguntum liegt ein Rundmacellum vor, dessen Grundform vorwiegend in Italien anzutreffen ist. Die klare geometrische Gliederung des Gebaudes findet keine exakten Parallelen in der romischen Architektur und ist bislang auch das einzige mit Sicherheit als solches anzusprechende Rundmacellum ausserhalb Italiens. Die Nutzung des Macellums endet im 3. Jahrhundert n.Chr. durch ein Brandereignis, das weite Teile des Zentrums von Aguntum zerstort. In der nachfolgenden Zeit entstehen auf diesem Areal einfache Wohnhauser und Werkstatten, die sich dem Recycling von metallischen Rohstoffen aus dem Stadtzentrum widmen. Neben der architektonischen und baugeschichtlichen Analyse werden in diesem Band die kaiserzeitlichen und spatantiken Fundmaterialien sowie der archaozoologische Befund aus dem macellum von Aguntum behandelt.
