Martyres pacis
La saintete en Gaule a la fin de l'Antiquite et au debut du Moyen Age (IVe-VIe siecles)
by Michel Fauquier
The elimination of persecution in the Roman Empire, which had become Christian in the fourth century, and the establishment in the fifth and sixth centuries of barbarian kingdoms in the West that were mostly Arian but not very outspoken both raise the question, successfully tackled by the authors, of the possibility of saintliness independent of martyrdom.
