English summary: The art of Chinese ink painting, which is based on more than five-thousand years of Chinese philosophy and thought, is one of the most valuable treasures of world culture. The Shanghai-born artist and author of this book, Lili Yuan, has directed numerous painting courses on Chinese ink painting in Germany over the past eighteen years and had been honored many times for her work in China. Through this book, she hopes to share her experiences with floral painting. In total, the book contains twenty floral motifs in xieyi style. The painting process of each floral motif stands at the center of the book and is explained through the use of over two hundred color reproductions and short textual descriptions with the brushwork described in step-by-step details. The book contains both classical motifs such as plumb blossoms, orchids, bamboo and chrysanthemums and other motifs such as roses, poppies, irises, and poinsettias, which are not typical subjects in Chinese painting.
