Questo libro raccoglie una serie di saggi e di testimonianze volti a promuovere una rivisitazione delle vicende della Federazione Cgil, Cisl, Uil che dal 1972 al 1984 ha rappresentato un’esperienza originale del movimento sindacale italiano, contribuendo ad accrescerne il ruolo e l’influenza nella vita economica, sociale e politica del paese cosi come nella dimensione internazionale in particolare sul piano europeo. L’esperienza della Federazione Unitaria segna profondamente l’intera vicenda degli anni Settanta e, malgrado il carattere di compromesso del Patto federativo, rappresenta indubbiamente il punto piu alto del rapporto unitario fra le tre grandi confederazioni e del loro potere sindacale di fronte alle controparti, ma soprattutto di fronte al sistema politico e al governo.
