Vivre sans croyances? Il faudrait pour cela que nous sachions tout ce que nous avons le besoin ou le desir de connaitre. Mais il y a de l’incertain, de l’hypothetique, du probable. Peut-etre des choses dont la connaissance echappe a nos humaines facultes. Croire, il le faut donc. Mais pas n’importe quoi, ni n’importe comment. Quels sont les criteres d’une croyance recevable? La verite s’impose comme une norme absolue pour tout jugement. Mais on ne peut negliger la maniere dont nous formons nos croyances, ni leurs effets pratiques. L’univers de la croyance est immense, il faut y introduire des distinctions : opinion, jugement, conjecture, foi. Cette etude explore les principales directions philosophiques dans lesquelles s’est engage ce questionnement.
