English summary: In the early modern period, many sacred images were moved from churches into the possession of courts. At their former location, some of them were replaced by copies. On the basis of altarpieces by Rogier van der Weyden, Jan van Eyck and Albrecht Durer, Antonia Putzger examines the meaning of the substitution and change of location of these works.
