Der Band bietet einen Uberblick zum wachsenden Spektrum von Krisenreflexionen in der deutschsprachigen Literatur. Aus literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive werden aktuelle und historische Krisendiskurse in Literatur, Theater und Comic in den Blick genommen.

The times are out of joint – pandemics, migration, military conflicts, recessions and, last but not least, the often invoked global crisis of democracy are only the most striking symptoms of the troubled present. This volume explores the potential of crisis discourses for literary and cultural studies. Current as well as historical confrontations with social and ecological, individual and collective states of emergency, future opportunities resulting from them as well as coping strategies are up for debate. The time span of the collected analyses reaches back to the 18th century, the focus however is on literature (prose, theatre, poetry and comics) of the 20th and 21st centuries.
