Die zweite, erweiterte Auflage der 1971 erschienenen Monographie wertet alle erreichbaren Quellen zur mittelalterlichen Geschichte des 1078 gegrundeten, 1488 in ein weltliches Chorherrenstift umgewandelten Benediktinerklosters bei Schwabisch Hall aus. Nur in Umrissen konnen die dem frankischen Adel angehorenden Grunder und Mitstifter dieses zur Hirsauer Reformrichtung zahlenden Klosters vorgestellt werden, wahrend spatere Besitzentwicklung und -organisation, innere Verfassung, Vogtei, Gericht und Territorium besser deutlich gemacht werden. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit verdienen die Vorgange um die Umwandlung ins Chorherrenstift 1488. Hier geraten kirchen- und territorialpolitische Interessen des Hochstifts Wurzburg, der Schenken von Limpurg und der Stadt Hall in einen Konflikt, aus dem Wurzburg und der Wurzburger Stiftsadel als Sieger hervorgehen. Sie garantieren in den wirtschaftlichen und religiosen Krisen der Reformationszeit das Uberleben dieses Teils der mittelalterlichen Adelskirche. Der Band enthalt ein detailliertes Verzeichnis der Abte und Monche sowie einen ausfuhrlich kommentierten Bildteil, der auch die Ergebnisse der jungsten baugeschichtlichen Untersuchungen auswertet.
