English summary: In Kiel, Stockholm, and Copenhagen, the shift in the perception of space is based on fundamentally different presuppositions. As the navy expanded during the Prussian period its buildings were erected on the banks of the fjord. In Stockholm, which is built on a series of islands, water used to provide adequate protection from hostile attacks, while Copenhagen was entrenched behind defensive walls. With the onset of industrialization in the 19th century rivers and the sea were increasingly seen as convenient transport routes and less as natural habitats. In the 21st century on the other hand closeness to water is seen as providing living space, in which former industrial complexes can be returned to the people. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Kiel’s Rathaus by Hermann Billing, German and international architects and academics were invited to a conference, the contributions to which are collected in this volume. German description: Der Perspektivwechsel in der Raumwahrnehmung beruht fur Kiel, Stockholm oder Kopenhagen auf grundlegend unterschiedlichen Voraussetzungen. Mit dem Ausbau der Marine in preussischer Zeit wurden deren Bauwerke an der Forde errichtet. Fur das auf Inseln liegende Stockholm bot das Wasser fruher den ausreichenden Schutz vor feindlichen Ubernahmen, wahrend Kopenhagen sich hinter Wallen verschanzte. Mit der Industrialisierung im 19. Jahrhundert wurden das Meer und die Flusse vermehrt als gunstiger Transportweg und weniger als lebendiger Naturraum erkannt.Das 21. Jahrhundert wiederum interpretiert das nahe Wasser als Lebensraum, so dass die ehemaligen Industrieareale den Burgern wieder zuruckgegeben werden. Aus Anlass der 100. Wiederkehr der Fertigstellung des Kieler Rathauses von Hermann Billing wurden 2011 internationale und nationale Architekten sowie Wissenschaftler zu einer Tagung eingeladen, deren Beitrage in dem Band versammelt sind.- Die Bewertung der Wasserflache steht vor einem signifikanten Wandel- Wasser ist Lebensraum und bietet Architekten sowie Stadtplanern neue Aspekte der Raumgestaltung
