Ausgehend von einer deutsch-deutschen Perspektive betrachtet der Sammelband die Spezifika judischen Lebens im geteilten Deutschland sowie in weiteren ausgewahlten europaischen Landern. Im Fokus stehen Fragen nach der Wiederherstellung und sozialen Zusammensetzung judischer Gemeinden, den Beziehungen zur Mehrheitsgesellschaft sowie dem judischen politischen wie kulturellen Leben. Daruber hinaus widmet sich das Buch den Formen und Akteuren der Auseinandersetzung mit der Shoah sowie dem Antisemitismus und der antijudischen Gewalt in den europaischen Nachkriegsgesellschaften. In unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten werden so die vielfaltigen Herausforderungen judischen Lebens in Deutschland und Europa nach der Shoah beleuchtet und zudem die Frage diskutiert, wie judische Geschichte nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg heute museal aufbereitet und ausgestellt werden kann.
