Jacob of Juterbogk, professor of theology, Cistercian, and Carthusian monk, was a successful author of the 15th century. His writings are found in numerous monastic libraries of the late Middle Ages. This extensive work covers a wide (pastoral) theological field, but the focus is on writings dealing with religious life. On the basis of Jacob’s texts, most of which are not very long, one can get a vivid picture of the expectations and contents of monastic reform in the 15th century.
Jakob von Paradies, Theologieprofessor, Zisterzienser, und Kartausermonch, war ein Erfolgsautor des 15. Jahrhunderts. Seine Schriften finden sich in zahlreichen Klosterbibliotheken des Spatmittelalters. Das umfangreiche Werk deckt ein weites (pastoral-)theologisches Feld ab, aber im Mittelpunkt stehen Schriften, die sich mit dem Ordensleben befassen. Untrennbar ist sein Name mit der Reform des monastischen Lebens im 15. Jahrhundert verbunden. Reprasentanten der Bursfelder Reform erbaten Schriften von ihm, um die vita religiosa auaerlich und innerlich attraktiv zu machen. Uber die Netzwerke jener Reformkloster verlief auch die Verbreitung seiner Werke. Anhand der meist nicht sehr langen Texte Jakobs kann man sich ein lebendiges Bild von den Erwartungen und Inhalten jener Klosterreform machen. Die vorliegende Studie, die aus der Dissertation der Autorin hervorging, schreitet zunachst die biographischen Stationen ab und fuhrt in das umfangreiche Werk Jakobs von Paradies ein. Danach werden die monastischen Reformbewegungen des 15. Jahrhunderts vorgestellt, die sich v.a. um die Zentren Bursfelde, Kastl und Melk gruppierten. Neben strikter Regelbeobachtung zielte die spatmittelalterliche Reform auf Bildung, geistliche Lekture und Personlichkeitsbildung im weitesten Sinn ab. Anhand einer Analyse der beiden Traktate Formula reformandi religiones ab observantia lapsas und De perfectione religiosorum, die hier erstmals ediert werden, werden Inhalt und Form der Spiritualitat des Autors sowie sein theologischer Stil erlautert.
