Der vorliegende Band umfasst Studien zum italienischen Libretto am habsburgischen Hof im Barock, die in Vortragen bei einer internationalen Konferenz an der Universitat Wien im Juni 2019 vorgestellt wurden, und hat das Ziel, weitere Fragestellungen anzuregen und anzustossen zu diesem fur kulturwissenschaftliche Studien der Fruhen Neuzeit hochinteressanten Themengebiet.
Der vorliegende Band umfasst Studien zum italienischen Libretto am habsburgischen Hof im Barock, die in Vortragen bei einer internationalen Konferenz an der Universitat Wien im Juni 2019 vorgestellt wurden, und hat das Ziel, weitere Fragestellungen anzuregen und anzustossen zu diesem fur kulturwissenschaftliche Studien der Fruhen Neuzeit hochinteressanten Themengebiet. Wahrend des Barockzeitalters forderte die Dynastie Habsburg eine in Umfang und Qualitat aussergewohnliche Produktion von italienischen Libretti. Die 29 Beitrage dieses Bandes (auf Italienisch, Deutsch und Englisch) stammen aus der Feder einiger der bekanntesten Forscherpersonlichkeiten ihres Fachs und konzentrieren sich auf die spezifischen Eigenschaften verschiedener Textvorlagen fur weltliche und geistliche Musik; sie zeigen gleichzeitig auch die Vorherrschaft italienischer Texte im Musikbetrieb dieser Zeit, zunachst ausschliesslich am Kaiserhof und spater in den offentlichen Theatern, und unterstreichen deren Rolle und Bedeutung in der italienisch-osterreichischen Geschichte der Musik.
