Der von Iris Gerlach, Gunvor Lindstrom und Katja Sporn herausgegebene Band enthalt eine reprasentative Auswahl der Diskussionen des Forschungsclusters 4 “Heiligtumer. Kulttopographie und Kommunikationsformen im sakralen Kontext”, die auf jahrlichen Tagungen zwischen 2012 und 2019 gefuhrt wurden. Die Beitrage demonstrieren die zahlreichen Facetten der archaologischen, bauhistorischen, philologischen und religionswissenschaftlichen Forschungen zu Heiligtumern. Dabei fuhrt der Weg von einem bedeutenden bronzezeitlichen Heiligtum der Hethiter in der heutigen Turkei uber die Heiligtumer und Kulte der Sabaer im 1. Jahrtausend v. Chr. in Sudarabien und am Horn von Afrika nach Agypten, wobei hier Befunde vom Alten Reich (zweite Halfte des 3. Jahrtausends v. Chr.) bis in die Ptolemaerzeit vorgestellt werden. Von Agypten geht es nach Griechenland und an die ionische Kuste und schliesslich uber das antike Rom ins prahistorische Mitteleuropa. Insgesamt spiegelt der Band den gelungenen interdisziplinaren Austausch im Forschungscluster “Heiligtumer”.
