Die Arbeitsgruppe 5 ‘Hafenorte’ war von 2015-2017 Bestandteil des Clusters 6 “Connecting Cultures. Formen, Wege und Raume kultureller Interaktion” des Deutschen Archaologischen Instituts und wurde in Kooperation mit dem Zentrum fur Mittelmeerstudien der Ruhr-Universitat Bochum durchgefuhrt. Die Forschungsgruppe betrachtete nicht nur Hafenorte als Schnittstellen uberregionaler Beziehungen, sondern auch die Auswirkungen von Konnektivitat auf Stadte und Mikroregionen. Dabei legte man sich weder auf die Erklarungsmodelle der Stadte als herausragende Knotenpunkte (Fernand Braudel) noch der Vernetzung von Mikroregionen als charakteristische Gliederung des Mittelmeerraumes (Peregrine Horden und Nicholas Purcell) fest. Vielmehr sollte die dynamische Relation zwischen Naturraum, Konnektivitat und Hafenort beleuchtet werden. Unter dem Thema “Hafen – Stadt – Mikroregion” stand einerseits die Frage im Vordergrund, in welcher Form Hafen zu einer spezifischen Auspragung einer Mikroregion fuhrten, und inwieweit andererseits die Mikroregionen mit all ihren Bestandteilen, Ressourcen und naturlichen Bedingungen die Entwicklung der Hafen beeinflussten.
