La traduction presentee par Christine Ferlampin-Acher est l'occasion de redecouvrir ce recit, ou un loup-garou enleve un nourrisson, epouse une princesse de Sicile et devient roi d'Espagne. L'etude qui accompagne cette traduction propose une nouvelle datation du texte (dans les annees 1280) et rehabilite ce recit, qui loin d'etre l'oeuvre d'un epigone maladroit, est nourri de parodies et de pastiches amoureux et guerriers. Quant au loup-garou, il est l'objet d'un traitement original, tenant de la parodie, du burlesque et du pastiche : entre l'homme et l'animal, entre l'homme et Dieu, la fiction developpe un jeu de masques savoureux, qui explique le succes de l'oeuvre au XVIsiecle.
