La scultura del secondo Cinquecento romano presenta una straordinaria complessita per l’alto numero delle maestranze, l’ambizione dei progetti e il rinnovo dei materiali – marmo, stucco e bronzo – che ne modificano i parametri tecnici e visivi in profondita. Il presente volume offre uno sguardo generale sulle tematiche chiave della scultura in Urbe, quali l’allestimento sacro, le problematiche attributive, le geografie di provenienza degli artisti – con il caso specifico della Lombardia – le declinazioni del restauro e il valore identitario del ritratto. I testi, suffragati da un puntuale repertorio fotografico, restituiscono il panorama di un’arte specificamente romana, che trova in questo frangente storico una delle sue espressioni piu nobili, persuasive e universali.
